Thorama offers various services, with high skilled staff, such as, Nurses, Doctors, blood tests, Gerontology, Social Worker, Psychiatry, Psycology, Psychomotor Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language, Ocupacional Therapy, Family Nutrition, Osteopathy and Podology. This is an extra service and will be provided at extra cost.
The Healthcare Team has a therapeutic aim focused on empowering the Service user well-being, combining both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
If, on one hand, pharmacological therapies are characterized by the introduction of drugs, non-pharmacological therapies are considered by a set of interventions that aim to maximize the person’s physical, cognitive and well-being, as well as help them in the process of adaptation to disease. The activities developed are intended to stimulate the person’s abilities, ensuring, for the longest period of time, their independence, comfort and dignity.
Gerontologist is the name given to the professional trained in Gerontology, being designated for the study of biological, psychological, social and other aging. It is defined as “a multi- and interdisciplinary scientific discipline, whose purposes are the study of elderly people, the characteristics of old age as the final stage of the life cycle, the aging process and its biopsychosocial causes” (Netto, in Freitas et al. , 2006).
The role of the Gerontologist at Thorama’s service aim to promote the quality of aging in terms of prevention, adaptation to the environment, rehabilitation and palliative care.The role of the Gerontologist at Thorama’s service aim to promote the quality of aging in terms of prevention, adaptation to the environment, rehabilitation and palliative care.
In Prevention, it recommends interventions that anticipate the most common problems that affect the elderly and guides the creation of adequate conditions for quality aging.
In Adaptation to the Environment, it guides the creation of environmental conditions for a quality life in old age, focusing on the most varied spaces where elderly people socialize or live.
In Rehabilitation, it proposes interventions when losses have occurred that are recoverable and when irreversible, it guides the formation of individual and environmental conditions for a dignified life.”
In Palliative Care, it proposes interventions when progressive and irreversible diseases occur, covering physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects, with attention to family members, aiming at maintaining well-being and dignity of the elderly until their death.

The Nursing Service is an integral part of Thorama’s domiciliary care, aiming to provide the user with personalized and continuous care.
The main goal of the Nursing service provided by Thorama is to provide the patient with the comfort of their home and in a familiar environment, hence avoiding institutionalization. This enable families to be families and do not creat a problem due to their personal and professional occupations.

The Social Worker in Health is the name given to the professional trained in Social Work. Has its purpose built on different typologies related to the health and social care area, according to the author Maria Lúcia Martinelli, “the place of Social Work in health is, therefore, a multidisciplinary, plural place, a place of cooperative and complementary actions, of interdisciplinary practices” (Martinelli, 2003: pp18).
The role of the Social Worker assumes legal compliance, established by Thorama. In this way, it acts from:
Request- of the future Service User, Family or any other member know to the Service User. The request can be made in person, by telephone, or in writing.
Triage of cases – after the request, steps are taken in order to identify and analyze the problem arising from the situation in question. An initial assessment is carried out with the Service User and/or Legal Representative. This Assessment aim for the social diagnostic (individual and household characterization; physical and functional assessment; habits and interests…).
Home Visit – is carried out to collect all the information required for a more person centred intervention and need lead. In this way, by allowing the assessment of needs, the diagnosis also allows the elaboration of an individual care plan.
Completion of the Care Plan – Identifying and analyzing the information gathered, priorities will be established, and the intervention plans defined.
Implementation of Care Plan and Social Worker intervention – Taking into consideration the Care Plan outlined, it is important to emphasize that the Family must intervene in the Service User’s rehabilitation process, empowering them and enabling them to actively participate.
Articulation with services and resources – implies communication with the other services that Thorama has to offer, to create a network as adapted as possible to the Service User needs.
Assessment/Review – despite being the last action carried out, it is permanent throughout the entire process.
Agreement of the Care Plan – It is up to the Social Worker to organize, coordinate and supervise the care provided, as well as the professionals who guarantee the same care and services to the Service User. The Social Worker needs to manage the service taking responsibility for programming, execution and ongoing assessments of the activities carried over.

The life cycle is composed of several stages of development, namely, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, middle age and old age, and each stage has particularities that define a person’s life trajectory, because each phase is characterized by differentiated interests, as well as changes and transitions, both biological, psychological, and social.
Thorama focuses mainly on the stage and Old Age. The Psychology service aims to identify the matter that generates psychological suffering and help people to re-establish their emotional, affective, and psychological balance.
The Psychology service encourages Active Aging, preserving and improving your functional and psychological capacity in order to improve your quality of life.

The physiotherapy service aims to offer people better quality of life. The physiotherapist is the professional who works both in prevention and physical rehabilitation of people, so their function is centered on the analysis and assessment of movement and posture, aiming at rehabilitation, specific educational and therapeutic modalities.
So, the physiotherapy service aims to promote health and prevent disease, disability and disability, offering the Service user a better and more effective work of prevention, elimination or reduction of movement and function disorders, seeking to achieve maximum functionality and quality of life.
The home physiotherapy service carries out an assessment and provides treatment and counseling for all Service users whose treatment at home is most appropriate or convenient.

The Family Nutrition consultation consists of organizing the food routine of all family members and a complete analysis of the structure of meals and the family’s habits. Thorama’s Family Nutrition service proceeds as follows: initially, family members undergo a nutritional assessment and then a general food plan is prescribed for the whole family, with specifications for each element.
Each patient is different, in their personal, family, professional and social dimensions, so each consultation is personalized, as well as the diet prescribed.
After each consultation:
- Family meal plan completed;
- Organize a complete menu of healthy and balanced meals, taking into account to the nutritional needs of each member and adapted to the family logistics of performing meals (place, time, available time);
- Deliver the recipes and Shopping List.

Thorama provides a Medical Team that goes to your Home, to respond as adequately as possible to the needs of its Service users. This is an immediate response service that works closely with nursing care, physiotherapy, speech and Language therapy, family nutrition and other services that Thorama has. It is an excellent service, with the benefit of not having to leave the house, avoiding the waiting lines at the Health Center. This service does not replace, however, the GP or, in an emergency situation, the visit the Hospital.

Occupational Therapy is a role in the health area that promotes the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of people with cognitive, affective, perceptual and psychomotor alterations, arising or not from genetic, traumatic disorders or from diseases acquired through the use of human activity based on the development of specific therapeutic projects.
Therefore, Thorama presents the Occupational Therapy service with the main focus on training Service Users in their activities of daily living and in the significant activities of their life, using movement and sensory integration sessions as a resource, organizing the person’s habits and routines . Occupational Therapy intervenes to develop skills, recover lost functions, prevent dysfunctions and/or compensate for functions, with specific support techniques and procedures.

Speech and Language Therapy is the health area responsible for the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and scientific study of human communication and related problems, including all processes associated with the understanding and production of oral and written language, as well as non-formal forms of communication. In addition to the diagnosis and treatment of problems related to verbal and non-verbal communication, the speech and language therapist is also able to treat other associated pathologies, such as those related to the auditory, visual, cognitive, oral-muscular, respiratory, and respiratory functions, swallowing and voice. Here are the different situations in which the Speech and Language Therapist supports:
- aphasia (language disorder resulting from neurological damage such as stroke, TIA…);
- delays in language development, specific disturbances in spoken and written language, and in the field of fluency/voice;
- articulatory disturbances (substitutions, omissions or other errors in children’s speech);
- in dysarthria (speech disorder resulting from neurological damage);
- in apraxia (difficulty in performing neuromuscular movements necessary for speech production);
- in difluence (stuttering);
- and dysphonia (disorder of vocal quality characterized by hoarseness, vocal effort, poor vocal habits, poor use of the vocal apparatus).

Podiatry is the science in the health area, specialized in research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of alterations that affect the foot and its repercussions on the human body.
As the feet are our base, they deserve special attention, due to their important functions, such as supporting body weight, movement, among others.
The feet are, in fact, a reflection of each person’s health. Several diseases that affect the body, including gout, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes mellitus, circulatory and pulmonary problems, among many others, have a strong manifestation in the foot. Faced with signs or symptoms of these pathologies, the podiatrist establishes interaction with other health professionals in order to contribute, in a careful and effective way, to the resolution of these problems.

Thorama assures the Blood Test Service at home to meet the Service User who is unable or who has difficulties in going to a clinic thus ensuring both their comfort and the quality of service.
Blood and/or urine are collected at home in the presence of a medical request. The Service User will only pay the fees for the tests requested according to the Health System he/she has and a fixed amount of travel (may vary depending on the harvest area).
Blood Tests are carried out by accredited technicians, licensed.
Thorama supplies all kinds of material necessary for blood tests and ensures the transport of samples to the company’s headquarters. Blood Tests are examined by Joaquim Chaves Laboratory.

Osteopathy is a non-pharmacological therapy described by being an autonomous system of primary health care, which is based on differential diagnosis, as well as, on the treatment of various dysfunctions and prevention of health, without the assistance of drugs or surgery.
Osteopathy accentuates its user-cantered action, rather than the conventional disease-centred system. Osteopathy uses various manual therapeutic techniques.

Psychomotricity is a non-pharmacological body mediation therapy that uses expressive activities, body awareness and intentional motor activity to prevent or mitigate the effects of aging in the scope:
- Psychomotor (tonicity, balance, body image, space-time structuring, global and fine praxia);
- Cognitive (memory, language, attention, concentration, gnosias and executive functions);
- Socio – Emotional (interpersonal relationships, management of emotions and affections).
